our stay at zion country was absolutely fantastic we were able to relax and experience the real Jamaica in a safe and homely environment. We were the only guests at the guest house at the time which meant we had the amazing Owen all to ourselves! Owen really made our experience by accompanying us into port antonio our first time to help us get comfortable with the route taxis, introducing us to some of the locals on the long road (make sure you go say hi to Sophie at the cook shop!) and also helping us to plan and organise our activities for the days we were there!
Unfortunately as we were there over the weekend we were unable to experience Owens cooking and as there are only 2 real food options nearby (2 bars/basic cook shops – ie jerk and rice) and route taxis are hard to come by in the evenings we would recommend maybe bringing some snacks or eating your dinners earlier. And also if you’re there on a week night make sure you let them know in advance that you require a meal to be cooked at zion!
Also keep in mind the guest house is a little over an hour from port antonio. This is hardly an inconvenience though as you get to experience the local and beautiful scenery in between and riding the route taxis are easy and an experience not to miss!
The guest house itself was a real retreat and the cabins have an unbelievable view. Wifi, powerpoints and fan so really all you need. Make sure you bring a torch as its a bit of a trek to the bathrooms though! We unfortunately had a lot of rain while we were there and some got in under the door in our cabin so we would suggest maybe a water guard be put in under the door just to keep everything dry! Also we would love some canoes perhaps so we could take advantage of the bay out front!
All in all we had a very amazing and unique experience and would most definitely recommend it and would love to come and visit Owen again!
