If you like traveling because of the people you meet and the adventures you have, Zion is the place-to-stay. Zion Country is in an “old-Jamaica” style settlement on Long Road. My friends, Diane, Maryann, and I read books to neighborhood children in the evening in gratitude for them taking us to a dramatic geyser-type feature on the cliffs near their house and a crystal clear swimming hole known as “Spring N Jump”. That first night was so well-received that we continued reading during the rest of our days there. In addition, the owner, Free-I, transported bins of books and educational materials that I had donated, to local schools through a program called YAG (Yacht Aid Global). This lead to helping out the teachers at the Basic School for a few days. Next year I hope to stay a bit longer at Free-I’s than the 2 weeks I stayed this year. Free-I and his indispensable right-hand-man, Owen, have become like brothers to me and I feel like I am at my “second home” when I am there. If anyone wishes to contact me about YAG, email me at ekprill@gmail.com. ellen
