I have been to Portland – easily the best part of Jamaica – many times, but decided to try something new. It was a good move. The location is peaceful and beautiful. The cabins are simple but very comfortable and are set in fantastic gardens and have great views from generous terraces. The steep slope and stairs might be an obstacle to some, I suppose, but they are not really significant, and help to set the cabins apart. Likewise, the showers are refreshing rather than “cold”. And Free-I and Owen were great company and a good source of information about the area, which has many attractions to explore. I recommend Zion Country to anyone who appreciates good value and wants to experience some of the “real” Jamaica at a slow pace, away from the tourist traps and all-inclusive-megahotels .
