Calender of Festivals and Events

JANUARY

  • New Years January 1 - Public holiday.
  • Carnival at Mas Camp, Kingston. The first in a series of warm ups, with the latest songs and dance moves in preparation for the Grand Carnival.
  • Rebel Salute, St. Elizabeth. This live show highlights many local and international artists. Roots music.

FEBRUARY

  • Fi wi some’thing, (1 day event) is an African/Jamaican cultural show. It takes place in Orange Bay, Portland. There is a nice craft market and cooking demonstrations about healthy food. A lot of drumming and life artists from singing, dancing, poetry, comedy. Drinks and food are on sale. The whole setting is beautiful, on a river with a lot of green and the entrance is situated on the main road, so it is easy to find. This event starts from 12.00 till in the evening and there is an entrance fee.
  • Heiniken Startime, Mas Camp, Kingston. Night of pure enjoyment is promised by Jamaica top vintage performers.
  • Bob Marley Week, Nine Mile, St Anns. Bob Marley week with a tribute show to Bob Marley in Nine Mile.
  • Carnival in Jamaica.
  • ASH WEDNESDAY, February 13, Public holiday.

MARCH

  • The Portland Easter Weekend Getaway is being promoted as an opportunity for local and overseas based Jamaicans to take time out of their busy schedule to enjoy a weekend (March 29-April 1) in what the late Hollywood icon and Port Antonio's most famous resident -Errol Flynn- once called 'Jamaica's best kept secret."
    For the four days on the Easter weekend, Port Antonio, Portland will be the place to be. The proposed marquee events will be: celebrity rafting on the Rio Grande, a medieval style ball at the upscale Trident Castle; a beach party at Frenchman's Cove; Boat rides between Navy Island and Somerset Falls; the Boston Jerk Festival; Media Cocktail and Appreciation Party at the Errol Flynn Marina; and the Titchfield High School Fair and Fun Day. It will be a weekend of fun-filled excitement and one that will not be easily forgotten. We will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that every villa, guest house and hotel room will be occupied for the weekend.

APRIL

JUNE

  • Portland Home Coming, Port-Antonio. This is a one week long celebration of outstanding aspects off the parish including, its people and the appreciation of its natural beauty in the promotion of tourism.

JULY

  • Boston Jerk Festival (1 day event) what has grown to be a world famous event. It takes place in Boston Bay, Portland, what is situated between Port Antonio and Long Bay, (closer to Long Bay). They sell that day all kind of spicy (jerk) fish, chicken, pork, goat and more, nice spicy little snacks. You should eat this food with a well cold Red Stripe. This event starts at 12.00 and finish in the evening with a live show with local talent. Jerk festival is free but for the live show they ask entrance fee.
  • Heiniken Startime, Mas Camp, Kingston. Night of pure enjoyment is promised by Jamaica top vintage performers.
  • Reggae Sunfest, Montego Bay. Annual reggae music festival held in Montego Bay. This 5 day event features top local and international reggae artists.

AUGUST

  • Breadfruit Festival - (1 day event) in Bath, St. Thomas Parish. This is a really nice local cultural event where they show you what you can do with breadfruit. They roast it on natural coal fires and then later you can fry it. They serve it with fish, stew, chicken or pork. Bath is well known for the mineral spa, so why not a combination of the two! When you go home you feel as if you are re-born again. This event start at 12.00 and ends in the evening with a sound system. There is no entrance fee.
  • Independence Street Festival, Kingston. This outdoor all day event offers traditional food and craft work. The day boasts a parade featuring many well known marching/drumming bands and traditional dances like the kumina and jonkunu.
  • EMANCIPATION DAY August 1 - Public holiday.
  • INDEPENCE DAY August 6 - Public holiday.

SEPTEMBER

  • Heiniken Startime, Mas Camp, Kingston. Night of pure enjoyment is promised by Jamaica top vintage performers.

OCTOBER

  • Portland Marlin Tournament, (5 day event) what takes place in Port Antonio, Portland. This event starts on a Monday and finish on a Friday. When you go in the afternoon hours, you can see the boats coming in with their biggest Marlin catch. On Wednesday there is a rest day for the professionals and that day it is the day for the local fisherman in their canoes to go for the biggest Marlin catch. Every night there will be a party going on in Port Antonio and food and drinks are everywhere for sale (on the street available.) This is one of the most prestigious sports fishing tournaments in the Caribbean and will attract anglers from all over the world. There is no entrance fee.
  • Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration, Belmont, West-Moreland. This tribute in concert to the life of this renowned reggae musician will feature many reggae artists.
  • World Alive (the concert), Kingston. This concert has become the largest gospel event in Jamaica. Various International gospel artists will be featured.
  • NATIONAL HEROES DAY (changes) Public holiday.

NOVEMBER

  • Fish festival, Manchioneal, (1 day event) Portland. Manchioneal is famous because it is the #1 fishing community in Portland Parish. So they know really good how to prepare fish and you can taste almost any type of fish, prepared: spicy, stewed, fried etc. They serve the fish with bammie(what is made out off Cassava) and of course a cool, cool Red Stripe. There is in the early evening' a live concert organised with local talent what is really nice to see and hear. Manchioneal is close to the beautiful (not spoiled) natural waterfalls named Reach Falls. This event starts at 12.00 till in the evening hours. There is a entrance fee for the fish festival and show.
  • Heiniken Startime, Mas Camp, Kingston. Night of pure enjoyment is promised by Jamaica top vintage performers.

DECEMBER

  • East Fest, Morant Bay, St Thomas (1 night event). This is one of the best and maybe THE best live concerts from the last years in Jamaica. It is organised by the famous group: Morgan Herritage Family and this is their parish where the live. So every year, in the last 10 days of the year they have this well organised party with food and drinks on sale, outside and inside of the venue. The line-up from artists is every year amazing with 1 or 2 foreign acts. It’s a nice way to finish the last days of the year. This event starts at 22.00 and finish at 06.00 in the morning. There is an entrance fee required.
  • Reggae Super Jam, Kingston. A stage show featuring the 4 best Jamaican artists of the year.
  • CHRISTMAS DAY December 25 - Public holiday.
  • BOXING DAY December 26 - Public holiday.
